It has finally arrived!
After waiting for 3 months, our transition to Tennessee began. I have been meeting friends for lunch for about a week or so, and had lunch with the front office girls at Founding Farmers on my last Tuesday in the office. My last day in the Washington office was Wednesday, June 19.
Facebook Post 6/19/13: Heading in on my last DC commute - thank you Red Line for the hundreds of hours of reading time. Other than that, I will not miss you. Doors closing...
It was a really great day, though. I tied up a bunch of loose ends and Allison and Co. put on an awesome going away breakfast for me. Tons of folks came up to say goodbye - it was a perfect way to be able to say so long to such a large group.
Thursday, the house got packed up - you know, where you sit around feeling like a complete bum because others are busting their behinds in your house dealing with your crap, LOL. And Friday, the guys came to load up the truck. That afternoon, I did some running around to drop off the cable modem, return the random library book we found under the couch, and drop off the keys to the house... and, at about 3:30 p.m., I picked up the kids. They said goodbye to their friends and teachers (we will miss you Bright Eyes!) and, we hit the road.
We had to travel 300 miles and stayed at the exact same hotel as when we made the trip east nearly 2 years ago... we got there about 10 p.m. - it was a long freaking day!!
Saturday was better... we had a bit further to go, but we made it to the state line at around 10:30 a.m.
We stopped in Knoxville for lunch - at the one and only Sonny's Real Pit BBQ in the entire state. And, we made it to our temporary apartment around 3:30 p.m. After a rough hour of unloading the cars... we finally got to relax.
Jon went to play cards with his friends and the kids and I will be in bed pretty early. We're heading to the Jordans' for dinner tomorrow tonight... it feels great to be back!
