There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.

- Drew Barrymore

Jackson has become very entertaining in the last few weeks. Lately, we find ourselves just watching as he goes about his business, doing funny things to make us laugh. Of course, most times he's not doing it on purpose, just being his adorably cute self.

Jack loves my purse. Whenever he finds it, he puts it on his shoulder, waves good-bye to us and heads towards the back door. He'll come back around the corner and laugh at us. We tell him how glad we are he's back.

We get baby, open-mouthed fish kisses all the time :) They're gross but lovely. He loves to give hugs and high-fives, too.

He's started pointing at everything. He'll point - at something or nothing - and grunt us a questions. Ehh!?

He loves to read books. He often comes around the corner with a book, hands it to you and lift his arms to be brought to your lap. Or, if one of us is sitting on the floor, he'll hand us the book, turn around and back up until he plops in our lap. This is one of my personal favorites. Jack also likes to read to us.

Jack often gets up in the morning and will just play on his own in his crib for a while. He's actually a late sleeper, sometimes not waking us up until after 930! Other times, I'll hide at the door watching for a while as he talks to himself. Once he sees me, though, he is up like a flash and runs back and forth in his crib. Sometimes, he'll grab his blanket and throw it out or he'll go to one side, point to the floor and "Ehh!" at his pacifier. Then, again, sometimes he's throwing that out, too.

He eats a ton! We've been told he'll eat 2 or 3 servings of whatever they give him at school and he usually comes home hungry - and heads right to the refridgerator or points to his cabinent of goodies. Recently, his favorites are bananas (after a few months of hating them). He will not eat banana slices, though. He only wants the whole thing with one half in each hand. He has also started eating whole fruits. He will tear up a plum :)

After about 6 months of only having 6 teeth, just this week, we've seen two new ones. One, on his right side is a few back from the bottom two he already had. It has to be his first molar, the thing his huge. About the same time that one poked through, we started to see the beginnings of the two on either side of his bottom two.

Jack went through a phase shortly after we got back from Florida when he didn't like baths. I think it had something to do with us dunking him at the pool... he would start screaming as soon as we were taking off his clothes. Thankfully, that has passed and he's back to enjoying the baths. He'll play with his toys and try to overlook me bothering him with washing. He still hates to have his hair rinsed and maintains a screaming death grip while we have him leaned back to rinse. I have been talking and signing to him waiting for him to settle down a bit and it's getting better. We "brush" his teeth at bathtime, too, with a baby's finger brush. He likes that a lot. And, we sing the "Clean-up, clean-up" song to put away toys and he's a great help!

He gibber-gabbers all the time. All the time. He's noisy. And, when he's not 'talking' he's yelling or screaming or laughing like crazy. We sometimes get a da-da or ma-ma-ma or buh-buh-buh... but, we still aren't counting any of them as words. The closest he's come is Da-da... it's okay, I'm not taking it personally :) He's sooo close. I know once it starts it will be sentences overnight, lol. Or, at least seem that way.

Jack knows everyone's shoes and will go into the laundry room - his favorite, forbidden place - and pick up a pair and bring it to their owner. He's also a trooper and will put his dirty laundry in there, too. Unfortunately, he usually stops for a cat-food snack on his way out.
We've introduced time-outs, thank you Super Nanny. His most common offence is touching things he's not supposed to like the nightlight (not as often anymore), the tv or associated accessories, the dishwasher and the trash can. That kid LOVES the trash can. This one is difficult because he's gotten the concept of throwing things away, which we are encouraging, but he likes to linger and double and tripple check whatever he put in there is still in there. Sigh. I've only ever caught him eating out of the trash once, though. But, I wouldn't put it past him being a bit sneaky.

He'll also return to his dinner seat to look for a snack after the fact.

Jackson LOVES to be chased. This is a lot of fun for him and the chaser, expect when he's playing in a parking lot or in a store or something. He doesn't understand the difference between a playful "I'm going to get you!" and "Come here right now!" We're working on it. Running away at Barnes & Noble:

Jack weighed in at Weight Watchers last week and was 28 pounds! He's growing out of his clothes rapidly. The 12-month outfits are becoming fewer and farther between and 18-month clothes are fitting perfectly.

Maybe that's why he knows where his belly is. If you ask, he'll lift up his shirt to show you. He can also identify his head - with two hands - and his toes - all bent over.

He's also very warm-natured, just like his Dad. We went to see The Goonies under the stars (a parks and rec program), and the little boy was sweating the whole time, hair just soaked. He didn't seem to mind but we had to let him run around in his diaper. Jamee and I were comfortable... but, he was dripping! Similarly, if we put long sleeves and pants on for jammies, we have to be careful because he wakes up sweaty. Most nights, he's in shorts or a onsie. He won't keep covers on, but I check his feet while he sleeps to make sure he's not cold... ne never is.

But, my very, very favorite thing that Jack does - what just makes me giddy - is this little boy loves to dance! He stomps his feet, bounces, sways back and forth, shakes his head and lately even twirls in circles. He loves music, and will stop what he's doing to dance if a good song comes on for a commercial, lol. He loves it when we sing and he's started doing the hand movements for songs like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" or "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider." I can't WAIT to put him in dance classes!
