There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.

Uncle Andy is one of my best friends from college who ended up in the DC area when we lived there, too. He's also Jackson's Godfather and does a great job of keeping tabs on us and being a special person in our lives. Andy came to visit us for a weekend in June. We had a quick, but relaxing and fun weekend ;)

Andy flew in from Maryland Friday evening. We headed to Chili's for dinner and some catching up. We got to tell Andy all about being the parents of two - while showing exactly what dinner out with two kids is like (they were both good!) - and, Andy got to tell us all about his hellatious house-hunting experience, the townhouse he finally got a contract on, and all about heading back to grad school. Needless to say, lots going on and lots to talk about.

Saturday, we got up fairly early and headed to the pool, our favorite family past-time. The kiddie pool was closed, so that presented problems for Jackson, who is petrified of the big pool, but we still had a decent time playing for a couple hours. We grabbed some lunch and headed home for naps.

Later that afternoon, Auntie Jamee came over to watch Mary Grace while Jackson, Andy, Daddy, and I all went to see Toy Story 3. It was opening weekend and we had been waiting anxiously for this movie - Jackson's very first in the movie theater. More on that later ;) It was great that Uncle Andy could be here for such a mile stone!

Sunday went by too quickly. We played some and went out for lunch. We also went to Target so Jackson could pick out part of his birthday present. He had already received a Mr. Potato Head, but he kept with the Toy Story theme and picked out a Jessie doll, too.

Here are some pics from the weekend... Jackson wasn't the most cooperative, as you can see.

I feel very fortunate for the friends I've made in college... people who are still in my lives 10-plus years later and who are a part of my kids' lives. It's important to me that Jackson has Uncle Andy ... someone who he may not get to see as often as we'd like, but who we talk about, and look at in pictures, and who loves him no matter how far away we live. Don't they say old friends are the best?

Thanks, Andy, for making the trip! Now that you're a home-owner, don't be surprised if we show up on your doorstep to crash in your basement :)
