There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.

Derecho? What the heck is a derecho?  Believe me, we figured it out on June 29 when one ripped through the mid-Atlantic region and kicked us in the gut!

Derecho = Super Bad Wind Storm

It's timing was freaking awesome, too.  The week before, our air conditioning had been out.  I then spent the weekend in Detroit for work, and then Friday night around 10 p.m., the derecho hit and our electricity went out.  Man.

We spent most of the weekend in the basement, the coolest place in the house.  We ended up driving around town just so our phones could charge and we could sit in air conditioning.  It was a challenging weekend to say the least... and, at the same time, Mary Grace was just starting to go without a diaper. During our drives, we stopped at a number of stores with electricity to check out their bathrooms :)

Finally, around 8 p.m. on Sunday, we got our electricity back... true celebrations were had by all!  I took Monday off to do laundry and grocery shop to replace everything in the fridge and freezer that we had to throw out.

Sadly, the fiasco interrupted our July 4th plans... after the craziness of the weekend, we were not up to doing much on the 4th, and stayed close to home rather than heading to Toby's house for his office's party and firework watch party - hoping to make it there next year!
