Sigh.
Jack's had a great week because his Pops and Grama Lin were in town dropping off his Auntie Jamee to come live with us. I tell you, there is just about nothing cooler than seeing Jack with his grandparents. I love to see all of them play and love on him. Jack really took to his Pops. Of course, the may have had something to do with the fact that my Dad is a goof and rolls on the floor and in the grass with Jack :) Jack is also now the owner of a number of baseballs, a baseball bat and glove and a hoodie, lol!
Other than that, Jack has been exploring more and more. He loves to find shoes and carry them all over the house. He's also developed a fondness for his travel size baby toiletries. He loves to play with his baby shampoo in the tub and now cries for his little bottle of powder. Don't ask me!
At twelve months old, babies usually range from 27.75 inches long and 18 pounds (10th percentile) to 30.5 inches long and 23.75 pounds (90th percentile).
It's time for your twelve month well-baby check-up! At this appointment, the doctor will ask you questions about developmental milestones your baby may have reached by twelve months, such as if your baby can pull up to stand and if he is cruising. The doctor will also ask if your baby waves bye-bye, imitates sounds, says any words, and if he is showing signs of stranger or separation anxiety. If you haven't made an appointment with your pediatrician yet, make one today!
You know your baby has become a toddler when his favorite things to say are "No!" or "Me do it!" or "Mine!" Your toddler is trying to become independent and is busy forming his own identity. Offering your baby choices whenever possible will help him feel independent. If he can't have his way, offer alternatives that he can choose instead.
A fun activity for your baby right now might be to scribble with crayons on a big sheet of paper; or try Color Wonders - markers that only show up on the special paper that comes with them. They could save your furniture and carpet from a rainbow of stains in the months to come.
Your big one-year-old will still enjoy cuddling with you, despite his big-kid independence. He still needs reassurance that you will always be there to meet his needs and that you'll always love him. Enjoy this special bonding time with him while you still can. Your little baby is growing up so fast!
