There's something liberating about not pretending. Dare to embarrass yourself. Risk.

- Drew Barrymore

This winter, we have had snow, snow, and more snow. And, cold to go with it.

February got off to a yucky start with our 6th or 7th snow storm of the year. The weather hit about 2 or so in the afternoon on Wednesday. Jon had called to give me the heads up that it was going to be bad; however, I didn't leave early because the news always says it going to be bad and the black ice is going to jump up off the road and throttle you... so, I left at normal time.

And, experienced my worst-ever commute home. It took me an hour and a half to make it home, which compared to some of my co-workers was the express route. It was snowing so hard, I couldn't see and worse, the ice kept building up on my windshield until just strips of window was open. I had to pull off the interstate twice to get out and clear the ice off my windshield so they would work properly. It was horrible.

It ended up snowing until about 10 p.m., so the next morning when it was time to go to work, I figured it had been plenty of time for the roads to be clear going in to work. And, when I got on the interstate, I was right. The roads were pretty clear. But, as I got closer and closer to Nashville, they steadily deteriorated. Just packed snow, couldn't see the lines on the road, and everyone going slower and slower. I swear, once I got into Davidson county, I don't think they had done one thing to treat the roads since the night before.

I made it all the way to Haywood Lane - which is only about 3 miles before my exit on 24 - before turning around and going home. Prior to this, I had been at a standstill on the interstate and when I finally was able to change lanes, I pass a semi-truck two vehicles ahead of me just spinning tires on the ice. Once I did turn around, the traffic was a lot less, which was a good thing... the scariest part of my morning was coming up to two or three trucks well ahead of me that appeared to be stopped. As I got closer, I - and, those drivers near me - realized the trucks were stuck and if any of us stopped behind them, we would be, too. It was a free for all, please don't hit me from behind as I try to get around these trucks merge kind of thing as everyone on the interstate worked their way to the right to get around.

This morning commute quickly out-ranked my Wednesday evening commute as the worst one ever.

I made it back home at about 9, truly thankful to have made it. And, all the snow was gone my 2 that afternoon.

Honestly, I don't think it's the snow that is the issue... It's more if I'm going to live some place that snows, it needs to be some place that knows what to do with it, and doesn't run out of it's "salt" budget before the season ends!
